turning time back to 1929 3:16 PM

The long-overdue birthday celebration for dearest Chris! :)

Her cake's from Room for Dessert, the Bananas about Chocolate and we got it customized with the pretty cherry blossoms. Room for Dessert is one of the many online confectioneries I found while searching for my own birthday cake. Apparently the Bananas about Chocolate was recommended. Thankfully the girls said it was a good choice. Its similar to Secret Recipe's although I would say SR's is certainly more sinful cause it's always such a huge serving!

Dinner was at Hotel 1929's Restaurant Ember. It's one of those hidden-in-the-nook dining treasures frequented by expats and yuppies. It has a great ambience perfect if you're gonna bring your partner for a nice dinner. They have a wide selection of wines too I believe, even though we were too poor students to afford any. lol But the food was certainly as good as the reviews raved about. Don't drool cause I'm gonna inundate you with the pictures. :)

The Deep Fried Soft Shell Crabs with Sweet Wasabi Aioli

We got this since the friendly waitress advised us that our main dishes would have to take up to 25mins to be ready. This was served with 2 large foccacia buns, enough for the 4 of us. The foccacia was warm out of the oven and the butter melted the minute you spread it on! super shiok. haha But of course, the soft shell crab was terrific enough to hold its own too lah. The wasabi sauce, more than giving you the usual fiery kick, was more mildly sweet and very complimenting to the meaty soft shell crabs. Now these crabs have meat in them lah! Not like the ones you get at Sakae Sushi where its more shell and flour. >.<

    My Lobster Ravioli

the refreshingly spicy sauce + fresh succulent chewy lobster + big portions = a very satisfied me. :) haha this was really good although it was pretty pricey actually. $32 for this main. however, value for your money if you consider the price of those yummy lobsters. hee

Manda's Seafood Penne with Clams and Prawns

Like my lobster pasta, the penne here was well-cooked too. Smooth with enough chewiness. heh and look at the generous portions of seafood. *drool*

Chris' Marinated Cod with Black Miso and Herbed Potatos

I'm a big fan of cod and so I loved this.. Soft yet juicy and with the fragrance of the marinate.

Jingyi's Oven Roasted Chilean Seabass with Sauteed Mushrooms & Bacon

This was heavenly! I may be a cod-lover but this seabass hooked me over with its chewy texture and thickness. This was clearly fresh fish. haha I found the bacon and mushrooms a tad too salty but I wasn't the one who ate the most of it so I was fine with that. Jingyi didn't have a word of complaints so maybe it was just me. :P

Here comes the best part yet.. DESSERT! haha

Warm Banana Tart with Homemade Lavender Icecream

now this was something special. lavender icecream. lol us girls didn't take it so well cause it felt like we were eating lavender-essence-infused vanilla icecream. we found the lavender fragrance a tad too strong although we did finish it in the end. haha it was okay to stomach lah. just doesn't make me want another go at it. :P the banana tart was great though! since the last time Zhangjin made fried bananas with caramel sauce, I've been having a craving for cooked bananas. Cause when you choose the right bananas, they can taste really sweet and fragrant after they're cooked. This was even better, complimented by the crisp pastry. So icecream aside, this was pretty good.

Our apple tart with vanilla icecream

This apple tart does not have any airs about it, nor does it try to be chi-chi with odd-flavoured icecreams. Its just plain ole ordinary apple tart with boring ole vanilla icecream we've all grown up eating. But to be honest, this was the better than the banana tart. We were almost fighting over the last piece (think jingyi brandishing her dinner knife fending off predators eyeing that last piece) and jingyi was scrapping off every bit of left-over crumbs when we were done. haha unlike the apple tarts you find elsewhere, the ones use in this tart were thick, soft but with some remaining crunchiness of your apple. Neither was it artifically sweet so we couldn't have enough of it. I kind of miss this... hmm

So after the great dinner, we were all happy satisfied girls.. haha
    more pictures below.. :)

but then our little adventure had to end somewhere, so we headed off back to the revamped-to-modern-day Clarke Quay for an after-dinner stroll.. and that's all folks! :) it was a good dayy!

Welcome to the drunk mootoo tiger's blog. This is the blog of a nonsensical 22 year-old. All posts are true accounts of misadventures in my life.

    misadventurer
I'm a shopaholic, a chocoholic, an alcoholic, a clubbaholic, an eataholic, a music junkie, a traveler. I love crying in the movies, love cookies and popcorn, love lazing at home and love making people laugh. I'm addicted to Johnson's Baby lotion, to my mom's cooking and to sinful desserts. I cannot multi-task, I cannot drive, and I'm afraid of heights but I enjoy rollercoasters. I like to be around people with whom I don't have to care if they think I'm crazy drinking bak kut teh from a straw. I've never taken the reverse bungee, never been to the US, and never dyed my hair pink. And I want to go on an misadventure once in my life.

    the grand plan
