all in a day.
12:14 PM yesterday was such a LONG day. long and eventful. and heart-stopping. the morning began at 6.30am when we all got up to get ready for the Netball match at 8. Our opponent was Hall 4, and well things began not so smoothly. they weren't strong compared to Hall 2 for sure but they were stronger than us. and then during the 2nd quarter, while man-marking their Center, I somehow ended up landing awkardly on my right foot. and before I knew it, I heard and felt the crack in my ankle. fell down and couldn't move for a bit. had to be carried off the court where my leg was iced and cold-sprayed. _______________________________________________________________ unfortunately for me, I had a tennis match right after netball at 9. and I was supposed to play mixed doubles with Desmond. All Vincent wanted me to do was just stand and serve and let Desmond cover all the other shots, since I was pretty much immobile at that point. Was able to run around a bit initially though. So with my handicap, we lost in the end, but not without putting up any good fight. It certainly didn't help that I couldn't move around fast enough and Desmond had to run around the court so much. But I think the opponent was nice enough not to target me too much seeing my injured leg. Didn't realise this while I was on the court actually. Hmms... a big difference compared with the soccer match in the afternoon. _______________________________________________________________ Shan't mention which hall (which I can't really remember anyway.) but well comments from the other halls spectators got a bit nasty and then their players started pushing ours. I can't attest that we didn't throw any nasty comments back or that our players didn't push theirs back, but I'd say it was a really difficult game to play and that would probably explain why tempers flared. The constant rain for the past few days made the field all muddy and puddles of water resembling landmines were everywhere. Once the ball ended up in a puddle it slowed down or got stuck there. Dribbling had to be done with much care and caution in case you dribbled into a puddle and outran the ball, giving it away to your opponent behind. It happened so often that it was common to lose possession of the ball during yesterday's game. And there were 'virtual defenders' in front of the goalposts because once the ball got into those regions, they stopped rolling ahead. So it really made more sense to attack down the wings rather than in the center. But the most exciting and heart-stopping thing of all was how the game progressed. The opponent hall scored 2 fluke goals at the start. Owing to the muddy conditions and unpredictable route the ball would take, it was difficult to tell where the ball would go. Then it started drizzling and Yixin said it was 'showers of blessing' for us. We got 2nd for hockey last year in the rain, and the soccer guys also won their last match in the rainy weather. And true to that, the guys scored! And then another, so that we now drew. We were all ecstatic by then. The guys were giving their all, somehow never giving up even though already at the start the opponent scored twice so quickly. They ran like they'd never get another chance to. Kept their spirits up and pushed on. After that the other hall scored again, bringing the score to 3-2 but then the guys came back with an equalizer! Beautiful one by Alvin anyways. straight into the goal. :) When full time came, it was still a draw so it was the Golden Ball rule to decide the winner, i.e. first ball in and the game ends. Was a corner kick I think, which Roland headed in. I think we all went mad. haha I cried. so amazing since I didn't even cry when we won games during Hockey last year. But my gawd. Their teamwork, the perseverance, the never-say-die attitude, the fighting spirit. I was SO happy for them. They are absolutely deserving of the spot in the Quarters! But then JunHao, who got carried off the field close to the end of the match, had probably overexerted himself and had began cramping very badly in the legs. It didn't help that the rain came on and off and the wind was so chilly that even I started to shiver. That he was crying was proof of the amount of pain he was going through. And all of us started to get really worried cause it wasn't getting any better. The cramps kept coming back and he had begun to have spasms. His eyes were so red and he looked like he was using so much effort to keep it open that I was so afraid he would just faint anytime. He was hyperventilating and everyone kept shouting at each other to call this and that and get this and that. So very worrisome. Thankfully he's now okay and didn't have to be hospitalized. *huge sigh of relief* The kind of things guys do for sports. haha I don't think I know of any girls who would push themselves to such extents for their sport. RESPECT. and admire them because I wish I had at least a tad of the amount of fighting spirit they had. to make a comeback and turn the tables on the opponent. If ever I had a game like that in my life, I'm sure I'd be damn proud of myself. haha SO PROUD OF THE SOCCER GUYS! *huge grin* _______________________________________________________________ and then at night it was dinner with the Maxvens at Fisherman's Wharf, Clarke Quay. Pretty nice quiet place, which serves really cheap Fish & Chips! They use good fresh tender dory and best of all it only costs $6.50 for a pretty substantial portion. I couldn't finish mine. haha It was an xmas cum birthday celebration for Vincent's bday on the 19th. We got him the red Adidas watch he mentioned that he wanted to get before his dad threw away his 50% city chain voucher. And I think he was pleasantly surprised. haha He liked his present so we're all happy too. :) And we finally gave nick his belated present, which was the pretty jacket I'd been eyeing for a few months now from Ripcurl. haha And yea man it suits him! Right size too. haha so yay double happiness! Had a hand in getting both the presents so yeps I'm happy too. lol _______________________________________________________________ oh yea don't, however bored you are, or however much you like Jay Chou, watch The Curse of the Golden Flower! Cos firstly he looks fugly inside. and secondly cos its one of those kinda chim movies that Zhang Yimou always does, so unless you understand what the heck he's trying to say, you'd just get more bored than you already are. so yea I fell asleep in the theater, in part due to the long day I had but mainly because it was SO BLARDY BORING. what a total waste of 8 bux and 2 hrs I could use better as sleeptime. unless you can understand all the representations that are illustrated in the show, I think you're better off watching Deathnote 2 (shld be pretty good even though I haven't watched it yet, considering the first installment.) or The Holiday (see my previous post for review) or A Night in the Museum (which is a comedy that Xiuping says is really hilarious.) okie this is an uber long update. time to scoot off! :) Happy Holidays anyway! I'll just spend my holiday nursing my ankle. :( 0 comments |
