Finally settled down in Oslo
10:54 PM After a long disappearance, I'm finally back! I've finally been able to get my internet up and been able to upload my photos. The past 10 days have been such a whirlwind! And I can't quite believe it has only been 10 days since these lovely people came to the airport to send me off. In 10 days I've been to Norway, and then backpacked to Italy (Pisa, Venice, Florence, Rome) and back to Norway. Had time to go for an intercultural workshop at school, visit IKEA to get some stuff for my room and go shopping for groceries. And I had my first home-cooked meal last night and it really didn't taste that bad. It was just nice to be eating a proper meal of rice after 6 days of panini, pizza and pasta in Italy. (I never got sick of the gelato though. :P) Anyway the questions everyone has for me is - How's Norway! And so here goes my reply - Norway's cold, like everyone probably knows. I still wear my FBT shorts when I'm in my room but the weather demands a jacket, even when I don't open my window. The wind here is really cold! And so is the water from the tap. But the sky always looks gorgeous (maybe because I can really see the sky here.) and it only gets dark at about 8plus or 9 which I still haven't gotten used to. I keep thinking its only about 6 and it feels perfectly fine to be having dinner at like 9 cause of the daylight. Oh and the sun rises really early each morning. So I keep waking up early from the sun that shines into my room in the morning. But generally, the view is gorgeous. the Oslo airport feels like a huge long room built out of IKEA furniture pieces, with wooden floors and full length glass windows and walls. And it always feels good to land at the Oslo Gardenmoen airport. When you step outside, the air is cold like I mentioned, but very fresh. And just yesterday, we visited Sognsvann Lake which is just a 5 min stroll away from my hostel. Norway's known for cheap salmon, but I haven't eaten any yet! They are all sold in huge pieces, cut along the length of the fish so its probably about a 50 cm ruler long, thereabouts. I haven't figured out how to finish that amount of salmon on my own so I haven't bought it yet! But I'm toying with the idea of buying wasabi and enjoying fresh sashimi. Prices are generally quite high in Oslo, especially on toiletries. But the clothing stores here are mostly having huge sales now though! :] I already bought 2 tops and a belt, of which one of the tees I got at 20NOK (about 5 SGD) on sale at the mall at Oslo Central, and then there's H&M, which is kind of like Topshop in S'pore and its having 70% + 50% sale! You don't ever get such massive sales in S'pore man. I'll blog about my Italy trip another time. Kinda tired of staring at the computer, including chatting with my mom over Skype for more than 2 hrs. My entire photo album is uploaded at http://saphiration.multiply.com anyways so if you can't wait for the account you can look at the pictures first! :] Ciao! 0 comments |
ely belly Welcome to the drunk mootoo tiger's blog. This is the blog of a nonsensical 22 year-old. All posts are true accounts of misadventures in my life. misadventurer
I'm a shopaholic, a chocoholic, an alcoholic, a clubbaholic, an eataholic, a music junkie, a traveler.
I love crying in the movies, love cookies and popcorn, love lazing at home and love making people laugh.
I'm addicted to Johnson's Baby lotion, to my mom's cooking and to sinful desserts.
I cannot multi-task, I cannot drive, and I'm afraid of heights but I enjoy rollercoasters.
I like to be around people with whom I don't have to care if they think I'm crazy drinking bak kut teh from a straw.
I've never taken the reverse bungee, never been to the US, and never dyed my hair pink.
And I want to go on an misadventure once in my life.
