5:21 PM my face is badly burnt. its beetroot red, and it seriously resembles a tomato. i don't even dare wash my face now for fear that i'd strip pieces of skin off. so of course i didn't go kayaking. sorry for spoilin everythin pok, know u really wanted this class outing to work out. and so being oh-so-bored at home, i decided to try and whip up something in the kitchen.(partly inspired by having to prepare a meal of instant egg noodles for dinner at jing's place last night.. haha) afterall i haven't stepped in there for such a long time now, except to refill my water supply and grab myself a couple'a biscuits. so i went online, searched for some recipes and settle on one for shepherd's pie, since it was supposedly quick and easy and it didn't require obscure ingredients that i had to travel all the way to supermarkets in town for. all was well, i followed the steps and was excitedly waiting for the potato crust to turn a sunshine golden brown and was half-expecting it to shower me with more of those darned rays when i finally opened the oven. but after 20 minutes of baking beside the oven myself, it was still that starchy yellow color that all potatoes look when they're cooked. pretty much the same color it was when i put the casserole tray in. ugggghs!!! i was tired of waiting so i thought i'd just take a gamble and cut it open. afterall the sauce from inside was oozing out, a sign it was probably ready for devouring. so i went ahead, cut it up and put some on my plate. and there was my shepherd's pie, all fallen apart the minute i tried to transfer it from casserole to plate. it was just half mashed potato crust and half filling. just like how i'd put it in. it was supposed to be an entire pie right?? darn. what a failure. too much sauce, too much mashed potato and too little chicken. it was edible but not how i'd imagined it'd be. actually maybe i was disillusioned into thinking a shepherd's pie was the same as a chicken pie. silly me. its alright, i'm tryin to get a recipe from cheryl's mom so i can try it out again. hope i don't meet with another soggy pie. thanks so much cheryl!! and i guess jing u'll hafta wait till i experiment successfully gal.. haha 0 comments |
