Krung Thep Mahanakhon
2:21 PM err.. that's just the abbreviated name Thais in Bangkok call their homeplace. it translates to 'City of Angels' and the full ceremonial name is actually recorded in the Guiness Book of Records as the longest place name in the world. alright, i got all this not off this website but from the tour guide from Shangri-La who took us on a half-day tour to Ayuthaya, the Summer Palace in Bang Pa-In, a ride on the elephants and on a 4-hour long riverboat cruise down the Chao Phrya River. I actually enjoyed it more than I'd expected, even though I was intent on going to the Jatujak weekend market instead! at least i got to take so many photos.. heh that was for Saturday. the rest of the other 3 days i were there were spent shopping at Pratunam Market & Central World Plaza, walking around MBK, Siam Discovery Centre & Siam Square, having indulgent meals at the poolside restaurant & in Chinatown. I didn't do as much shopping as Charlene said she did! like she bought stuff wholesale (of course at lower, wholesale prices), 6-a-piece.. well my mom would have murdered me if we had to lug all that back home. and i missed Jatujak market since my Saturday was spent touring and I flew back on Sunday afternoon.. maybe I'll go there again with Charlene when they graduate! hees.. anyhow the Thai people are mostly like us.. Bangkok looks like Singapore and their trains work like ours do. Thais are pretty friendly I guess.. I felt comfortable there, didn't have much difficulty finding our way around(with the help of a map of course.) okie, enough of the commentary. here are the pictures! i loved the hotel room, the hotel pool and most of all the hotel breakfast. hees.. you can see i grew fat there. lol 0 comments |
